Description
Members of ONE-TC are invited to learn about the Raptors of Minnesota at The Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine.
This exciting program, based on Minnesota and national science standards, is a learning experience not soon forgotten. We will explore the different raptors found in Minnesota and their role in the environment and learn the three key features of all raptors and why they are different from other birds. We'll discuss the positive and negative impact humans have on our environment, and be inspired by some of our greatest environmental success stories, such as the peregrine falcon and the bald eagle. We will meet at least three raptors, such as a vulture, hawk, owl, or falcon and touch hands-on teaching tools such as feathers, wings, skulls, and feet. Questions are welcome and encouraged.
The auditorium program will be followed by a tour of The Raptor Center and the outdoor housing area, where we see most of the 31 education raptors and hear some of their exciting stories. (FYI: We will not go outside if there is inclement weather.) After which, we will hear about The Raptor Center and its important role in protecting raptors and the world we share. Everyone should leave feeling inspired and empowered, having learned specific things they can do to help protect raptors and the environment.
There is space for 15 adults and 15 children. The cost is $5/child and $7.50/adult.
The program lasts about an hour.
